The Western Australia Emergency Service (WASES) is the control agency for flood, storm, tsunami and earthquake in Western Australia, managing responses to these emergencies and helping communities to prepare through planning and education.

WASES has a coordination role to facilitate the development of Emergency Plans at State, Regional and Municipal levels.

State Emergency Plans

State Emergency Plans contain information on:

  • Responsibilities of key agencies regarding prevention, preparedness, response and recovery
  • Regional and local level emergency planning requirements
  • Specific requirements for emergency activities (e.g. warning, evacuation)
  • Operational structures and staff responsibilities

Regional Emergency Plans

Regional Emergency Plans contain information on:

  • Coordination of responses between municipalities
  • Provision and allocation of resources
  • Operational structures
  • Inter-agency coordination
  • Control arrangements

Flood – Regional Emergency Plans

The Pilbara Region Flood Emergency Plan is currently being reviewed – please contact your local office for more information.

Storm – Regional Emergency Plans

Pilbara Regional Storm Emergency Plans are under development and will be uploaded as they become available.

Tsunami – Regional Emergency Plans

Regional Tsunami Emergency Plans are currently under development and will be uploaded as they become available.

Earthquake – Regional Emergency Plans

 Regional Earthquake Emergency Plans are currently under development and will be uploaded as they become available.

Municipal Emergency Management Plans

Under the Emergency Management Act 1986 Part 4 Section 20 (1), municipal councils must prepare and maintain a municipal emergency management plan. Contact your local municipal council for a copy of your municipal emergency management plan.

Municipal Flood Emergency Plans

WASES leads the development of Municipal Flood Emergency Plans that include previous flood information and assist councils and agencies to prepare, respond to and recover from flood events within a Municipality.
Municipal Flood Emergency Plans contain information on:

  • Description of the flood threat
  • Areas and populations affected by flooding
  • Flood history
  • Flood intelligence cards
  • Flooding consequences and required actions
  • Evacuation plans
  • Local flood warning system arrangements
  • Mapping, including hazard and/or inundation mapping
  • Roles and responsibilities of agencies
  • Control arrangements
  • Plan activation trigger points
  • Liaison and communications.
