Following the landfall crossing of Tropical Cyclone Stan yesterday, Hedland State Emergency Service Volunteers and DFES Staff headed out to conduct welfare visits on Pastoral Stations that were in the path of Tropical Cyclone Stan.

The Volunteers visited Pardoo Station and Roadhouse, Yarrie, Marble Bar and Nullagine. The response they received on their visits was positive, as Vicki Rossi from Pardoo Station said “Its reassuring knowing that whilst we are remote of any immediate assistance, there is someone out there, such as the SES  who we can contact before, during and after such an event and knowing that these great people “have our backs”.

As most of these stations can and do become isolated by flooding following such events, it is an important role of the SES to ensure that lifelines are established and maintained with people on remote stations during and after to ensure the welfare of the people on these stations.

As it turned out during their trip through the region the helicopter they were travelling in required diverting to Nullagine prematurely to assist in the rescue of occupants in a vehicle that had become trapped by rising flood waters.
